Due to the global COVID-19 outbreak and the impacts of the earthquake that hit Zagreb on 22 March 2020, the Croatian Parliament decided to cancel the LXIII Conference of Parliamentary Committees for Union Affairs of the European Union (COSAC) that was scheduled to take place on 24-26 May 2020 in Zagreb.
In order to ensure the continuity of the activities of COSAC as a forum for interparliamentary cooperation during the current crisis caused by the coronavirus, the Chairman of the European Affairs Committee Domagoj Ivan Milošević, acting as the chair of the COSAC, convened an extraordinary meeting of the Presidential Troika that was held on 20 May by video conference.
The participants of the Troika meeting confirmed the convening of the video conference Extraordinary Meeting of the Chairpersons of COSAC, scheduled to be held on 16 June. The topics to discuss will be the common European response to the COVID-19 outbreak and its impacts on the Multiannual Financial Framework 2021-2027 and the Conference on the Future of Europe.
The participants of the Extraordinary Meeting of the Chairpersons of COSAC, which consists of representatives of national parliaments of the Member States and the European Parliament, as well as observers and special guests, will be addressed by the Chairman of the European Affairs Committee Domagoj Ivan Milošević.
At the meeting the 33rd Bi-annual Report of COSAC will also be presented, which includes contributions from 36 parliaments/chambers of EU Member States and the European Parliament on the best practices in cooperation between national parliaments and EU institutions, bodies and agencies, and on the legal mechanisms for parliamentary oversight. The main points of the meeting will be presented in a letter from the Chair, which will be offered for co-signature to COSAC members and submitted to the Commission and the Council.
The meeting will be held from 09.00 to 12.00 hrs CET via the Cisco Webex platform. The instructions for registration and participation in the video conference are included in the technical information which is available at the website of the meeting along with other relevant documents.
The meeting will be open to the public by means of web streaming.
