Main topics: global challenges for Europe, European perspective for the Western Balkan countries, strengthening defence cooperation and industry

From 2 to 4 March, the Inter-Parliamentary Conference for the Common Foreign and Security Policy and the Common Security and Defence Policy will be held in Zagreb and bring together members of national parliaments of EU Member States and the European Parliament, as well as members of parliaments of European NATO member countries, candidate countries for EU membership and other guests.

The Conference will be co-chaired by the Croatian Parliament and the European Parliament and it will start with the introductory remarks by the Chairs of the Croatian Parliament Foreign Affairs and Defence Committees Miro Kovač and Igor Dragovan and the Chair of the Foreign Affairs Committee of the European Parliament David McAllister. In the opening part, the Croatian Parliament Speaker Gordan Jandroković will also address the participants.

The Conference will focus on topics related to the global challenges facing Europe, the European perspective for the Western Balkan countries and strengthening of EU’s defence cooperation and industry. In the workshops that will be held as part of the Conference, the participants will discuss the future of the Eastern Partnership, the role of the EP and national parliaments in the Permanent Structured Cooperation (PESCO) in the field of security and defence, and the role of women in peace and security. 

The Conference will be held at The Westin Zagreb hotel and it will web streamed on the website of the parliamentary dimension of the Croatian Presidency parleu2020.sabor.hr and YouTube channel.
